Space is both unsafe, and spare: insufficient and badly arranged as to make it impossible to carry out the treatment of the Sick in accordance with modern science.
I have therefore the honor to suggest the appointment of a Board to consider whether the building should not be condemned and a new Hospital commenced to be built on the lot of land to the South of the present lot.
The Lock Hospital is very insufficient for the treatment of patients. It was erected originally for 20 beds, the plan being very ill adapted for the purpose. The hospital had diverted from its proper use for the purpose of obtaining additional accommodation for Lock patients, but still the space is insufficient.
I have in this case to propose the arching of the fracture partition walls in the old Lock Hospital and the joining of this building to the Fever Hospital, so as to give a continuous range of wards. I understand it is proposed to convert the Fever Hospital into a Sick Hospital.
